Went back to San Antonio Raceway last night for some post tune runs. Our camera man could not make it so we didn't get any good footage or photos but I have the time slips and that's what counts.
The biggest difference between last time and this time was I was not the slowest thing at the track. I ran against Dave a few times then we ran against other people. Dave won several that he didn't expect to and I actually won a race and almost won 3 others.
Numbers!
The Tahoe's best run was 15.9207 @ 87.98. That's almost a half second improvement on my best pre-tune run. Dave's best run in the TBSS was a 14.2220 @ 97.64 which was over a half second improvement. Not quite the 13.99 that he was looking for but he's happy.
The most fun part of the night was when we started racing other street cars. I went up against a Dodge Cummins, a supercharged Buick Riviera, a Acura Integra, and a Mazda RX-8.
Dodge Cummins!
Big, ugly, hary, and BAD...well kinda. It had 2 6 inch smoke stacks coming up behind the cab and looked really mean. I was pretty intimidated but I gave it my best run. He ended up beating my by .7343 but .4 of that was reaction time. I had him off the line but he pulled away about the 300 ft mark.
Buick Riviera
Granny car! Well not really. It had a supercharged V-6 under the hood and the guy knew how to drive. He ran pretty consistent 15.5 second runs all night. He beat my by .5019 which is about right.
Acura Integra
Pretty paint job...check. Loud exhaust...check. Low profile racing tires, HID headlights, and a wing...check. Ladies and gentleman we have a ricer...which is funny because earlier that day I had eaten a rice krispie treat. Now I was about to eat another one. First win of the night by .4746...check!
Mazda RX-8
Pretty much bone stock. In his defense he had a terrible run and mine was pretty good but it was a very close race. He won by .0362 sec but with another 200 ft I would have won since his trap was 74.83 MPH and mine was 86.54.
Dave also ran the Buick and Acura but he also ran against a Camero SS twice. Dave walked away undefeated...barely (he beat the Camero by .0046 in the closest run).
Overall we were very pleased. A .5 second improvement in the 1/4 mile for only $250 is very good value. The next .5 will cost about $800 and it only gets exponentially more expensive after that.
So in closing, for anyone considering a BlackBear Performance Tune, here it is in black and white, cold hard data. It's more than just an improvement in the butt dyno. Justin is a genius.
