I've read the tech write up on the steering wheel fuse, and still can't find it. I took my whole dash apart, found a brown and white wire, with no inline fuse anywhere under the dash, certainly not within 4" of the BCM. I also checked between the clock spring and steering wheel. Opinions on where this fuse is hiding?

Are you talking about the lights for the steering wheel control buttons? If so, I don't believe there is a fuse for it, its part of the circuit for all the dash back lights. its a 30 amp fuse in the fuse box on the drivers side of the dash. The fuse is marked tbc. there are three of them, but only one is for the dash. My fuse was good, i just replaced the buttons i got on eBay for $70 and everything lights up again.

I've never heard of this fuse either but half my button lights were out and it was sure fun to solder new ones in. Tiny little things.

The buttons work fine, and the dash lights work fine. Just the backlights for the steering buttons don't work. When I was putting them in I forgot to disconnect the battery and a small spark later they stopped working (I was using needle nose pliers, and they shorted the plug).

Some say there is a fuse, it acts like a fuse, the tech write-up claims there is a fuse, but I can't find it. I've checked every fuse in both boxes. Any opinions?

It was the backlights for the steering wheel buttons that I replaced, not the buttons themselves. Probably not your problem if every single one are out but you could check for voltage on the circuit board or at least visually inspect the boards for signs of burning or damage. The steering wheel has to be pulled though. The tech write-up is for a different vehicle unless yours is a Duramax Diesel pickup. You might have burnt a trace on the circuit boards or even one of the components on the board. Like I said, I've never heard of a fusible link for that on our vehicles.

Also, if you decide it's the button modules there's companies on EBay that offer rebuilt units for around $45. One other thing to try first is for voltage on the brown/white wire as it enters the steering column. Here's a link to another person trying to find this elusive fuse, and they say there's no fuse but it helps for troubleshooting. BTW what year and model is your rig? http://www.justanswer.com/gmc/5v5ls...-replacing-steering-wheel-radio-control.html#

There are tiny soldered-in bulbs. I had to remove my steering wheel to take the switch assy out and then found bulbs at Radio Shack. There are new circuit boards available on EBay also that are easyier to swap out. Be sure to disconnect the battery first especially if you pull the airbag and steering wheel.
