What you describe sounds like methanol based ultra low temp washer fluid. Obviously that’s not it, although the methanol is potent and will make sensitive peeps nauseous.
Mail in your oil and have it analyzed. Burning a lot of methanol creates formic acid. Ethanol is a dead ringer for what you described as alcohol with a slightly sweet smell. If the cats don’t get hot enough on start up, you’d deff smell the dissipating ethanol heating up until the cats react it into something else.
