Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum but wanted to join because I plan on getting either a White or Black 2006 z71 tahoe in the next week or so and needed some of your expert advice....

So the car I am looking at is for sale in Maryland, but seems to have spent it's life in northern New York (near the canadian border)...

It's a 2006 with 57k miles, white, 4x4, and a GM Certified car, so it comes with the 12mth/12k mile bumper-2-bumper warranty...but I have one big concern...

Everyone keeps telling me to beware of used vehicles from up north because of potential damage from the salt used on snowy roads...being that I'm a floridian, I have no idea what the reality of this claim is...

could anyone provide some help on this? this looks like a great condition truck, but i dont want to bottom rusted out in another 5 yrs....

Thanks in advance

Ifyou are willing to travel from florida to Md, you should be able to find a truck that won;t be a potential ticking timebomb and cause you to curse everytime you try to remove a bolt. Did you look in AL, MS, GA, LA AR etc. Notice I didn't initially mention FL? Watch out for people that live on the beach... the salty AIR is also bad.

I'll be honest, I would never even LOOK at a vehicle that spent it's life in a cold snowy winter state, just like I won't buy a vehicle with ANY body or frame rust at all... not even surface rust.

The biggest thing is to take your time and go over EVERYTHING... dont look at it and fall in love with the truck. Thats what I did and I couldnt be happier. See if the dealer has service records of the truck too, that can tell ya a fair amount about the previous owners use. Lastly... dont believe carfaxs worth a hoot. I looked at one truck that was broken into, the rear dvd stolen and replaced and all sorts of disfunctions.

To be honest dont know of many differences between the 05 and 06... They both have the newer style Z71 badges and I didnt notice a difference between the group I looked at.

I have a 2003 Z71 that (I'm assuming) has lived it's entire life in WI and IL. The only rust problem I've had was the rear bumper. And I've seen a high percentage of NBS Z71's with the same problem (just saw one today). The painted bumper just gets eaten from the inside out. I have not seen a chrome LS/LT bumper with this problem at all though. I ended up having my entire rear bumper replaced last year with a chrome bumper, which the body guy media blasted and repainted inside and out for cheaper than buying a painted one new (the chrome is $300-$400 less than the painted one).

Other than that, mine seems to be OK rust-wise.

My yukon was in northern pennsylvania/southern new york when i bought it.

The only rust i found was on the lower inside doors and it was minor surface rust that the dealer fixed before i took it home. Everything else is absolutely fine.
