Hello I'm new to the forum and in the market to buy a new rig. I was thinking of a Tahoe for the room and offroad capabilities because I spend a lot of time shark fishing down the beach. Right now I drive a 2007 GMC duramax that I have tuned and such, I love the power but I would like to get rid of my truck payment since I will be renting my first house soon. After I sell my truck I will have about 10k to spend. I favor the older bodies compare to the 2000+ but I'm not against 2000+ years. I was wondering what year is a better year as far as the platform to build off of? I was thinking of lifting about 6''s and running 35's also I would like to do some hp mods to give it some more get up and go. What hp can these trannies hold? Is it necessary to regear with 35's? Sorry for all the questions just a newb here and trying to learn.

Hello n welcome.

All 91 - 99 chassis are pretty much the same, except you have a choice of 2 or 4 door fot these years.
Motor-wise, 96 and up will get you Vortec motor and TBI up to 95.
4L60E - don't go too nuts on get up and go dept, maybe up to mid 300hp? You could have it "built" up but better bet would be upgrade to 4L80 if you want more.....
If you're gonna be running 35's you'd definately looking at regearing to may be 4.56 or so as these trucks typically came with 3.42 or 3.73.

Have fun dreaming up all the stuff you could do.

Peace.
