Hey all, 2008 yukon xl denali and I have been having an issue but not getting any codes. My question is, can my throttle position sensor or peddle sensor be bad without throwing a code? there are times I can slowly press my throttle and it does nothing until it is fully depressed.and when it does it kicks down hard. and sometimes when kicking down into passing gear it downshifts hard as well. so I am wondering if either of the previous sensors I have mentioned could be bad. I do not get any codes or check engine lights

Yes, it could be bad and not cause any CELs. Or, with those symptoms, it may not be bad at all. What you're describing sounds very much like how the 4L60E operates at certain speeds. Since it has only 4 gears, there are a few common instances, mostly when trying to accelerate at lower speeds, where you're going too fast for it to downshift but not going fast enough for the engine to be in it's powerband, so it lugs. If you're not going TOO fast, flooring it will make it downshift but the engine immediately roars to ~5,000 RPM+ so it'll only be in that gear for a second or so before upshifting. I'm not saying there is NOT a problem, but you don't wanna chase a ghost. Have you cleaned your MAF lately? You track your fuel mileage?

yes i cleaned maf as well as throttle body when I changed my oil pressure switch. My trans is a 6 speed though. it has always had this issue but my trans pressure switches were shot as well. I finally got those fixed but still acting goofy. I just know it is a drive by wire. so either throttle peddle could be bad or throttle sensor.

Are you sure ? The 09 and up got the 6l80 while the early years 07 and 08 got the 4l60

All I can say is to have a scan tool hooked up to comapre the TAC module's commanded throttle angle to the TPS's readings. Do it with the intake tube off so you can compare the throttle blade's visual position to those numbers.
