I have an 05 Tahoe with 305/40R22's. I hate them and someone wants to trade me for some 285/50R20's. Can anyone tell me if they will fit and if so will they ride any better than the 22's?

yes, they'll ride a lot better.

and brake better

and
accelerate better.

I went from 305/45/22 to stock 20s with 275s. made the truck completely different.

Eagle is correct, if the 22's ride harsh, the 20's and 285's will ride much better, and do all the things he stated. 22's is alot of rolling mass to go, and stop.
Mileage may actually increase as well.
