so im a proud owner of a 2002 tahoe that i bought in november. being a minnesota resident it gets cold and snows durring the winter. so find this truck, look at it, but it, happy as hell. i knew it wasnt show room quality but i didnt see or feel anything wrong but a couple door dings and a scratch here or there. spring comes, start looking around the truck more and more. take a look under the rearend, no spare tire and the cable was cut. wtf i bought a truck with out a spare. not that im really mad or anything, its my fault. just gives me one more excuse to work on the truck.
so my question is, has anyone bought their truck/car with out going ovet it 100% and finding a wtf how did i miss that?

My first car as a high school senior was a used 78 mustang turbo ... widely considered one of the worse cars ever built. Apparently, even without the internets, everyone but me was aware that this was the case.

Within five miles of the dealership the turbo stopped working, it started smoking oil, the clutch started slipping, and several other catastrophes ensued as the days and months went by.

So the answer to your question would be yes. :)

I always look over everything from top to bottom, back to front....I've had vehicles I shoulda never bought but that's a different thread:)

With that said, I guess my '77 reaped some surprises as I was building and finding some hack repairs that needed fixed along the way that previous owners had left behind. I also found that the old bed was completely held together by bondo as it just crumbled as we took it off to put the replacement bed on

My second car was a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS ......... owner told me the car just wouldn't run right and that he was sorry he had purchased it. Well, I bought it and had it towed home, sight unseen, for $3455.

My WTF? The engine turned out to be the mighty LS6 and the problem with the runability was that the carburetor/throttle spring was the wrong size. Each time you'd tromp on the pedal the spring would become stretched and the the car would eventually die. By the way, the engine had been built & bored .60 over.

"WTF, I wonder if the guy had any idea of what he had" .......... :) :emotions122:

haha i bought a bug for my second car back in high school. the guy said the engine was blown and it needed a new engine so i got it cheap. i didnt even bother opening the deck lid to see. took it home, changed the oil, plugs, wires and thought it might start so wth i cranked it and nothing. not even a click, no lights, no gauges, nothing. my dad was like you're screwed it worse than he said. well i was like what do you want for $90!! so i pulled the rear seat, guess what?? no battery!! put a battery from my other bug and it fired right up!!

some times not looking or knowing benefits the buyer! if the seller had looked, he would have seen no battery and might have got it started!

as for the "other" side of the transaction giving up a car that still had life as posted above, i have something similar...

last year we had an income loss and the in laws helped us out by giving us their old santa fe SUV. they bought a new mustang and were told by the oh so educated idiots at jiffy lube that it had a blown head gasket and probally a cracked head. i took it thinking i would sink 500 into it for a rebuilt head and still have a cheap car for the time being...well when we got it, it didnt have a cracked head or anything.. yes it had oil all over the motor...because the valve cover had been seeping...and it had 150k miles on it....so i cleaned it up and tightened the bolts until i could run up to the parts store the next day and get a new gasket...well that trip took a back burner and i never made it. it never leaked a drop the 20k miles we put on it while we had it...and we wound up with 3k for it in trade in on the yukon xl hahaha...

but as far as buying w/o looking...nope. thats just silly talk. ever since day one with my 77 chevy....i knew all its flaws and issues and still bougth the dam thing...but it was a great truck. man i miss it. and 07burb doesnt help much rubbing his 1977 CHEVY TRUCK in my face all the time

Also, how does a previous owner troubleshoot an issue where a vehicle won't start and nothing will even turn on and NOT check for a battery???? Isn't that the first thing you check then go from there??? I know I would
