Ugh!

I was messing around with the adjustment rod on my driver's side headlamp to raise/adjust my cutoff and the stupid thing popped out of its thingie ... so the reflector fell downwards and now one of my projectors is cutting off 20ft in front of the truck. Not only that but it's vibrating up and down as I drive down the road.

So, before I go through the ordeal of taking my bumper off, does anyone know if it's possible to reattach it to the reflector from outside the housing, or is this something that requires me to bake it apart?

Help!

It depends on whether the rod broke out,or just came out.
You can probably try to reattach it from outside but you may need a whole new assembly.

Well, I was adjusting the reflector upwards and turned it one too many times ... I felt it pop out of its hinge/bearing or whatever that thing it's attached to is called.

As you know taking the bumper off is a bit of a pita, so I'm wondering if someone with a Yukon headlamp has had this happen to them before and if they were able to reattach it without taking the headlight apart.

Getting a new housing is not really an option as the projector is retrofitted in there ... worse comes to worst, if it can't be popped back in, we'll take the housing apart and JB Weld the reflector in place.

Sorry to hear of the misfortune Soulsea. Have you tried removing the headlight housing without removing the bumper cover? My method has always been to remove the bolts above the grille, propping that piece outward and let it rest on it's own (now unseated) guides, then slowly work to remove the housing rotating it as needed to get past the bumper cover/grille area. I've never removed the bumper cover on the Yukons I've owned.

How do you get to the headlamp tabs on the side without removing the bumper cover?

The only way I can think of is removing the wheel liner clips and screws on one side, removing the corner V shaped bracket, the bolts above the grille like you say, the screws under the bumper, and then just pull one side of the bumper cover out loose without unbolting the other. At this point I'd be 80% to removing the bumper so I'd just go ahead and do it.

Is this what you're saying or is there a much simpler way I'm failing to process?

take the clips and screw out of the front of the liner and reach in and unbolt the headlight bolt... that's it.

The first attempt always requires removal of the lower housing bolt and that can be done from the fenderwell behind the liner. That bolt does not serve enough purpose to be re-installed :imo:

The housing can then be easily removed, whenever deemed necessary, with the bumper cover still in place thereafter.

Okay thanks guys ... I'll take a peek under there and see what's up.

Man, hard to see what's what under there.

It's okay, I'll just take my bumper off tomorrow and see if I can pop the adjusting rod back in to the housing ... then i'll leave the side bolts off so that I can do it without having to take it off after that.

I'm surprised no one has had this happen to them before tho ... it seems very easy to twist it one too many times and have this happen.

It is difficult to see without peeling the fender liner back but that lower housing bolt should be the only 10mm bolt in that area.

BTW, Do your projectors protrude from the rear side of the housing?
