So I recently acquired a 2000 Tahoe and I just noticed that nothing happens when I hit the tow/haul button. What gives?

The wire probably got disconnected in the gear shifter. Its a pretty commmon problem in these trucks. For whatever reason there is very little slack and they tend to break the connection.

It keeps it from shifting at a normal RPM (1,200-1,500) to a higher RPM (3,000-3,500). This causing the motor to pull good power when towing. Almost like having a stall converter to get you to your cam operating specs.

Did you get this resolved. Keep in mind there is a certain way it engages. If i remember correctly you need to have it in (3) position on the shifter.

Yes I got it fixed. All it was was the little orange wire for the switch that over time flexes too much with the action of the shifter and breaks. I tried to solder it back together but it was too brittle. So I went to the parts store and ordered a new shifter lever because it comes with the pigtail. It was a direct swap and was done in an hour. My only complaint is the parts store shifter (made in China) has some casting flash but I can live with that knowing the dealer would have charged an arm and a leg for the same part.

Also you don't need to be in "3" to activate Tow/Haul. You can select it in any gear and the transmission adjusts its shifting accordingly. Even in "D" it won't shift into overdrive until you're over 55mph and light on the throttle.
