got a 2007. high miles, ~120k or so.

local dealer has some program Tahoes, thinking of making the jump for the power train warranty, and the dealer throws in a lifetime power-train warranty thru a third party, good anywhere.

and of course, the dash cracks.

how does the 6L80E do by SOTP, is it any better/worse in
-drive-ability (gear hunting on hills when towing)
-gas MPG (any at all? or even worse?)
-towing (heat, take off, tow mode, engine braking?)

i know my 2007 gear-hunts with a tiny open dual motorcycle trailer.
it's annoying to tow with it, i can't imagine a boat or car behind it.

what does your wife think, if you upgraded from a 2007 to the newer model?

just kinda wondering. i usually tow a car on a open trailer pretty often,
thats 1500# for trailer, ~3500# for trailer.
but i have a diesel now, was thinking of selling it on fleabay,
and trading my tahoe in.
and downsizing to one vehicle.

good thread on lack of upgrades to the six speed transmission:

Sorta confusing what you are asking...

from what i get is you have a 2007 tahoe...and looking to trade it for a new tahoe...

are you worried that the new tahoe 6 speeds will be gear hunting more than your 4 speed right now?

i dont think the wifey would care if you upgraded your 07 to the new tahoe as they are basically almost the same, just newer...

yates, did you just lock overdrive out, or use the Tow mode?

yeah, kinda wondering how the Tahoe would do if we got rid of the diesel.

it's nice to lock the cruise and not worry about losing speed up hills.

I tow my 23' Sea Ray boat (about 6000 lbs) and I have no issues with gear hunting. Tahoe pulls her at 75 MPH with no problems.

I recently picked up a new 2012 and opted for the heavy duty tow package. I've towed my boat (2500 lbs total) a couple times, and I think it tows just fine. Honestly, I felt it did less gear changes and hunting in tow mode with the trailer, than it does in normal driving without towing.
