I wondered if my 2003 Yukon XL 1500 6.0 litre was good for towing, it's rated at 8200 ibs and wondered if any of you have towed this much with it? Im thinking of buying a 7000 lb dry weight travel trailer, also what about mirror options? the stock ones aren't very wide? thanks in advance........

You can put the HD mirrors off the 2500 trucks, theyre are direct bolt on.

As far as the towing on it, not sure.

You can also get clip on tow mirrors that attach to your existing mirrors and they are removable when not in use. Check your manual for the towing specs. Looks like you'd be ok 'dry'. But then you gotta consider the water tanks after filling, supplies, etc.

Haven't had that much behind the yukon, but I have had more than that behind a 3500 CCLB w/6.0L. It's a lot of weight for a 6.0L, don't expect to do 70mph uphill unless you're redlining it. Yukon is lighter than the truck, so it won't be quite so bad, but 4.10 gears vs. 3.73 will be a little different also.

However, it will pull it. And I hope you have a weight-distributing hitch and trailer brake controller.

As long as you are under the gross vehicle weight you are good. I have towed small utiliy trailers, fishing boats, snowmobiles, 24 foot travel trailer(6000 lbs) with my Yuk. Its a 5.3 with the 22's. Tows great. Lots of torque. Just get the right setup for what you are towing. Brake controller, weight distribution hitch, extended mirrors, and if you can add a bigger tranny cooler. That last one will help alot! Also always use the tow/haul mode. Do not tow in regular. Your tranny will suffer. Shift points are different and help out alot. Your mpg should only go down about 3-5 miles, depending on how many hills you are driving over. Towed a 3000lb trailer from Florida to Illinois (1200 miles) last July. AC on all the time going 75 all the way, and no problems. Didnt suffer at all on the mpg. These suv's are awesome!!! If you got any doubts go to a reputable trailer dealer and they will let you know more info. My buddy tows a 30 foot 8000 lb travel trailer with his Crew Cab Sierra 5.3 with no problems.:)

yeah make sure u get a weight distributing hitch...for heavy trailers (boats for example) wo a WD hitch setup, i'd be for putting some bags back there. We can sure feel our boat behind ours...suspension is much softer than in my tundra...the tundra (3/1.5 lift, off road package, load range E tires) squats maybe 1/2 inch but the yukon squats noticeably when u hook er up...not to the point its dragging but it def no longer sits ass high...u can watch the back bumper go down as you crank the tongue jack....its not bad with our boat but if we were to go to the 24 footer we want to eventually get, we'd certainly put some airbags back there or possibly trade to a 6.0. but as far as towing goes powerwise, cant even tell the boat is back there. tranny hunts less than my tundra, but alot of that might be the larger tires contributing on my truck, i dunno...
