2007 Yukon XL (06 build), 127K. Vehicle is now 10 years old, with original TPMS sensorss in all wheels. Two of the sensors have finally gone bad, triggering the message on the DIC. Vehicle also needs tires, so I've just begun looking into the sensors. I thought it was as simple as having batteries replaced in the sensors (the tire shops preach "service" and "replace batteries" when tire shopping (with some of my other cars over the years)). What I was told, was that the sensor itself needs to be replaced. Tire shop, and calls to several dealers and other shops revealed the same story, along with costs in excess of $100 per wheel. I've looked online and found the parts for prices ranging in the $30-$40+ range.

Can anyone shed some light on the issue, and perhaps your own experience? I'm interested to hear what others have done. I've been clicking the DIC button for about a year now, to clear the message each time we drive the car, so I'm interested in getting this resolved during the next tire change. Also, I'll note, I'm aware of the tire learning process following a tire rotation; will that same process detect "new" sensors.

Appreciate any input. Thanks.

It's better off just replacing the entire tpms sensor. It's actually a 2 part design. The stem looks like a regular valve stem but it's not. It screws into the base of the sensor. Mine broke at the base when I went to remove it (corrosion). I found. Set of take off on ebay

They have service kits for them, but I've never tried them. I have typically replaced the whole thing, as stated above. But $100 per is pretty damn high. Discount tire sells & installs them for like $50 each I think.

I was wondering the same thing.... been out of the tpms system so long since I turned it off on my Jeep.

oewheelsllc.com sells a set of 4 for $80. Was thinking of giving them a shot but wanted to do some research first.

I recently replaced my tires and I had the shop remove the sensors without replacing them. I was not going to pay around $350 to replace the broken sensors. I don't mind using a tire pressure gauge.

In my state, TPMS sensors must work for inspection. Otherwise, you fail. It's a money maker for the shops. They only last so long.

I once had a factory GM aluminum cap rust on to the metal valve stem. So rusted, it would not come off. I tried wd-40 and pliers on the valve stem cap, and the entire stem broke off. Good thing I was under warranty.

That's why when I replaced mine I went with the replaceable stem that looks like a regular valve stem. Metal ones suck

Be cautious with the replacements. There's a lot of terrible sensors out there. All of the shops you have called are charging a lot bc they are pain the a**. I sell them for 75 per and absolutely hate them. Price check what the labor would be to program and install your own sensors. You can order ez sensor online for around 40 bucks. I have used almost every brand you can find and they have been best so far.
