I have an '06 Tahoe LT. About 8 months ago I purchased a set of nice wheels that came off a 2014 Silverado - a Craigslist find. About a month ago the "Check Tire Pressure" message came up on the DIC as well as the Tire Pressure warning light on the dash. All tires have appropriate pressure.

So a couple of Q's...

1. The guy I bought the wheels from said they did not have pressure sensors. Is that right? I'm thinking that coming off a new-ish truck, and nice wheels, would have the TPMS.

2. If the new wheels have sensors, will they communicate with my '06?

3. If the wheels do not have sensors is there a way to turn off the tire pressure warning light on the dash?

My plan is to replace the valve stems in my new wheels with the sensors in my old wheels when I get new tires -- but that may be another year down the road... I'd like to fix this now instead of waiting.

Thanks!

The sensors in the '14 will not talk to your '06. There is not a way to turn it off. You are best off buying new sensors to put in the wheels seeing as the set you have is 11 years old. You can buy a new set for <$100.

The only other thing you can do is properly inflate your old wheels, pair them up, and throw them in the back... Lol.

Just take your old tires with your original sensors to a shop and have them break down the outside bead, pull the sensors and install in your new to you wheels.

Or order new ones for the <100 and take them for the shop to install.

A good shop won't charge ya much to do that, at least they shouldn't.

Thanks guys, good advice, altho I didn't think of this option...

Ha! Good thinking!

I will get a new set of sensors and replace the ones in my "new" wheels...I'm planning to put winter tires on my old wheels and might as well leave those sensors in place.

A quick check on Amazon had a set for about $150...anywhere else I should check?

I just went discount tire with the wheels, hemmed and Hawed at his price a little, and ended up walking out for $180. 4 new sensors installed, 4 wheels balanced and mounted. Old wheels in tact, bagged loaded into the back of the truck. Happy.

I think the closest Discount Tire is in Washington, about 2500 miles from me. ;) But there are several tire places around here that I'm sure will be able to do the job.

Thanks again for the advice.
