2 part question here.

I purchased a 05 Denali back in May. Love the vehicle except for the stupid traction active problem. As I've searched the internet for the issue i see this is a huge issue/problem with these vehicles. Basically when I'm going between 10-25 mph the display reads "traction active" and I lose acceleration until I let off the gas and it will come back. None of the local dealers can find an issue, in fact they have never heard of it...ha ha. Should I start with the speed sensors, is this typically the issue? Any help would be extremely appreciated!!

2nd question, I've noticed when I start the vehicle I hear a noise coming from the rear (compressor) for about 20 seconds. Is this typical that it is that loud of a noise or should it be quiet when it runs at start. Just curious if I should have it looked at. It's loud enough where it doesn't seem right but I don't know. Thanks again

My truck only did it from a dead stop. It ended up being the hub assembly. I believe the bearing was worn and allowed differences in sensor clearance which set off the TC. It seems many people just clean or replace the sensor and all is fine. I just threw out my experience because it temp stumped my local dealer (they ended up finding it, it just took another few hours to chase it to the worn hub. Fortunately I just bought the truck, so the hourly bill was going to where I bought it).

2- My compressor runs for 10-20 seconds too, I believe this is normal. When you hear it running continuously, your shocks are most likely leaking and your compressor wont last long if it is having to run most of the time.

Yeah I hear a wierd almost rattling sound in the front when it does it, I dont know if i should try and replace speed sensor myself or not. Mine also does it from a complete stop.

Good to hear about the compressor. I just thought it was pretty loud, didnt seem normal.

Do search GM had tons of problems with these and I think there are write ups out there. GM actually had a recall on the earlier years, and the later years was some sort of 'service notice' or whatever they were calling it. Basically GM recognized the issue but were not paying to fix it. I think GM also went as far as having some mystery paint sold under their name in the parts dept to slow the corrosion. In many cases, the build up of corrosion between the hub and the sensor is enough separation the two. That separation changes the voltage (or whatever signal) and ECU believes that wheel is turning at a different speed (which would be a loss of traction), so it sets off the abs/traction control.

Clear as mud?:boxed:

Good luck!

I had the same problem as m3po, Mine did it from a dead stop as well.

And it was the speed sensor in the hub assembly luckily replaced under warranty.

Did you find what the problem was with the "traction active" display and loss of acceleration? This same scenario happened to me today with our 2004 Yukon. This is the second time this has happened in about 4 months. Acts like someone shut off the fuel supply. Just spent $470 to replace the charcoal cannister and sensor so I hope this repair isn't expensive.

The compressor will kick in at startup to air up the shocks. Mine used to run for about 10-15 seconds and it was noticeably loud. They get louder as they get older-mine was getting to the point of being embarrassing. I just replaced my rear shocks with OEM remand' ones along with a new compressor. Night and day difference-rides better and you have to just about stick your head in the left rear wheel well to hear the compressor kick in.....and now it only runs for about 5 secs on startup too ;)
