So as I was driving down the road last week I heard something that sounded like a metal bucket full of rocks. Turns out my transfer case and transmission were both completely destroyed. They both need to be replaced which really sucks.
So since they both need replacing, are there any upgrades I can make? I'm pretty unfamiliar with what my options would be.
Thanks

Research "pump rub" problem in the transfer case. Many GM 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton transfer cases can eventually fail from this problem. The lubrication pump in the transfer case has a gear that can grind a hole through the aluminum case after a thrust pin wears out. The fix for this problem (before the case starts leaking) is a simple washer that is designed to handle the pressure of the gear against the case wall. GM has known about this problem for years, but there are millions of these cases out there. It is possible that is what took out your transfer case. At speed, if the transfer case locks up from no lube oil, it can cause the transmission to be damaged.

The truck has 140k. I just got the transmission replaced and the TC rebuilt for $3,300 with a three year warranty. First shop quoted almost 8k!
