No wonder it was making all kinds of noise on you. It started spitting its guts up into the pan. I see what looks like needle bearings and even ball bearings laying there.

Key things to remember here when troubleshooting drivetrain noise. When a vehicle is NOT moving forward or reverse physically and there is noise, it aint coming from the differential, Tcase or driveshafts since none of those are moving when a vehicle is not physically moving forward or backward. But there are plenty of things moving in a transmission that are moving during that time (when tranny is in a forward gear or reverse).

So, I am now hip deep in a transmission swap. I am confused on the seal I need to replace for the transfer case filling up with fluid. Is it the back of the trans or the front of the T-case? I can't really see a seal on the output shaft of the transmission. BTW, it's a low mile used transmission, so I want to get all the seals replaced before I put it in. I also did the rear main seal while it was apart, (duh, who wouldn't).

was messing around with the broken trans and found more chunks. These are the biggest so far.

Got the "new" used transmission installed and it's working fine. Took me a while to get it done and it was quite challenging for me with all my arthritis and just working in my garage without a lift. But I'm happy it's finally done. Now I have an old broken transmission sitting around.

I recently replaced the trans in my 2002 Tahoe LT 5.3l FFV 4x4 with a fully upgraded one. All metal internals, corvette servos, even dyno tuned thw CPU for the proper shift points and sequence. It has been working fine for a while now. Even drove it from far Southwest Va to upper NY state, has a total of 3400 miles on it now. Then all of the sudden, on my way home from work, it started to make this noise, that I can only describe as sheeeing, sheeeing, sheeeing, only when it is moving, that increases tempo with more speed. It does it in reverse also. I tried removing the front drive shaft, thinking maybe it was my front diff, or Tcase. But the sound is still there. Got amazingly good gas mileage, but still have the sound. I parked it that day to avoid damaging my brand new trans. Any help would be much appreciated.

It has no issue going in/out or 4wd, or staying in 4x4. No slipping in the gears whatsoever.
