I have a 2002 Yukon with 215k miles, 4wd and has had all regular maintnence. Lately it has seemed like it has been slow shifting, for example when going from a stop sign and I start accelerating, it revs up a good amount then shifts, or when on the highway traveling at around 65, then I try to pass another car I gas it an it revs up, I back down, then accelerate again then it's fine. Is this a sign of my tranny going? Or does the fluid and filter just knee to be changed or does something need adjusting? Thanks

could a bad pinion bearing cause this? i think i have a bad one due to a loud clunking noise when going over speed bumbs, and maybe the two are related?

what your discribing sounds like good'ol transmission slippage. sound like tranny is on the way out the door. check fluid level- but it would need missing alot-

Add some no- slip and start shopping for a 4L80E. Might as well upgrade if your gonna replace it.

Would I be fine doing a rebuild or should I just get a new one? I'm a little tight on cash so I'm trying to find the least expensive route without something to go bad in the future

the cheapest route would be a take-out from another truck. just be super easy on it till find somthing else, at this point, like the other guy said throw ''magic in a bottle'' to help nurse it along.

i checked the fluid and its bright red, not muddy or burnt looking, so could it be the servo thats messing it up? im trying to stay postive here cuz a new trans is quite a bit of money.

I think the member name "Jay" knows quit a bit about these transmissions. See if you can find his profile and search his posts-I remember more than one post where he asks questions to help diagnose. Good luck, I fear the day when ***** the bed.
Also, if it were me, and I had any hopes of salvaging what is left, I would not be driving it.

If there's no check engine light on then a scan tool wont tell you anything really. You may have a soft code but if the trans was really on its way out Id think the cel would be lit. It was lit on my old grand cherokee. I was looking at Trans's last week on monstertrans.com and a 4l60 hd is 1500 plus 200 for a converter if you want their warranty (then you have to figure install). Have you checked www.car-parts.com for a used trans?

My Tahoe is doing exactly what you are describing. The fact that it does not always do this leads me to believe (hope) that the tranny is not going out but there is another issue. I just have not found what that would be yet.
