i got in the hoe just a lil bit ago and it had been running about 5 mins on my autostart that i put in last night. When i shifted into gear it hit really hard then shifted to second really hard and i thought, well maybe the fluid is still cold, but when i got the stoplight i noticed it also didnt downshift, and was in like 3rd or OD. I pulled the shifter down to first but it was only going into 2nd, is there somthing simple i can check (fuse or wires) somewhere or is there big probs? its a 97 2 door 4wd, 176k miles, ive only had this truck for a week but it has shifted perfect and has showed no signs of tranny issues
(till now) it will shift on its own but only acts like it has 2nd and 3rd. i never got over 40 and just turned around and came home when i realized i didnt have all my gears, also checked the fluid and it was full and didnt smell burnt. Please help

This is just a wild guess, but it sounds like your ECU thinks the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) is wide open all the time. Like it’s being fed voltage from another source.

Just something to check. The wire that may be crossed is the dark blue from the TPS. If you can find it in the plug going into the ECU, you could take a voltage reading to see if it varies with throttle movement or if it is steady voltage.

Those auto starts can be confusing on the hookup’s……………

If you had no problem before the install of the auto start and you have the problem immediately after the install, seems like it is a wiring issue.

great guess, i bought a code scanner last night and ran and cleared the codes and the truck ran fine, i had 5 codes and all were pertaining to shift solenoid and no voltage shown in tranny blah blah. It shifts fine and only does it if i let it run for a lil bit on the autostart, so there has to be somthing to hook up on the ignition to show that my truck is running to the tranny. anybody know what i missed?

So your code reader is able to do a re-set that corrects the problem until you use the auto start again.

Perhaps a diode missing, or in backwards, from one of the connections to the auto start?

The ECU will point to it’s malfunctions, with trouble codes, but it not likely to identify the cause, if it is an outside change to the system. (adding the autostart)

unknown at this time.
Actually one of the wires from the ignition switch powers the tranny circuits. Colored White or Pink/White from the switch harness. It feeds fuse #20 for tranny power supply. It should be wired into the remote starter to be switched on with the rest of your ignition wires as well and your problem should go away.

ive got the ign #2 wire on the pink/white, guess i will switch it to the solid white and see how it goes, and yes it only does it on the autostart and if you let it run for more than a minute without key on
