Well The Tranny Is Done Completely Done.

Its A 92 GMC Yukon 2 Door

Reverse Doesnt Engage At All

Its A Stock Transmission Automatic

But It Wont Shift Itself Into 2nd Gear It Just Red Lines

Any Ideas What The Problem Is?

Ive Added Fluid And Nothing

Would It Be Hard To Upgrade To A 4L60E Tranny?

i had the same prob i ended up havin it rebuilt ,i could manually shift from 1 to 2 but it redlined also at 2nd but i had reverse

Its Gone Though 7 transmissions In It 18 Year Long Life But maybe Its That Time? The Last One Was Rebuilt In 2006

That seems like too many tranny problems for one truck. You either beat the hell out of it all the time, or there is some other contributing problem.

Or maybe you pull a trailer a lot, or do a lot of off roading?

Switching to a 4L60e tranny would be a waste of time. Maybe you have cooling problems.

I would just have it rebuilt again but have them pay attention to what went wrong with it, as they do the tear down.

It would also be a good idea to hook up a pressure gauge and make sure the “tv” cable is set correctly.

The transmission shop I use, always does a “hot flush” of the cooling system, after catastrophic failure. They have a machine that pumps “hot” tranny fluid through the cooling system and special filter, for a few hours to be sure there is no debris in the radiator that will get back into the trans and screw it up.

There must be something else going on here. Keep us posted as to what they find during the autopsy. :)

Yeah. +1 to something else being fubar. Unless you're using your hoe for long-haul trucking operations, that's waaaaay too many trannies for one hoe. My magic 8-ball agrees that you should look into your cooling system. I imagine the other tranny shops replacing the trannies would have pointed out something that had really obviously broken, so it probably looks like normal wear/tear. Extreme damage that looks like normal wear and tear is usually caused by heat. So put me in the camp for a full flush of your tranny lines, especially if you have external radiators.

My hoe has a section of the normal coolant radiator for cooling the tranny, along with a second radiator (12"x12") in front of the AC radiator. You can tell that yours is similar by looking at how many lines go in/out of the main radiator. If you have the same setup, make sure the shop checks flow through both radiators. Best of luck, dude.

i agree with the rest of them. 18 trannys - wow. i mean are you like towing 18 wheelers, doing brakestands, and towing 18 wheelers WHILE doing brakestands? lol

i don't see any advantage to going to the LE tranny tho. i'd stick with the 7R400

7 trannys in 18 years haha, not 18 trannys. Even 7 is too many though.
