There is a lot regarding this mod and looking to confirm adding in the Trans Temp Gauge. If I solder in a new stepper motor would the Trans Temp Gauge automatically work? Seen conflicting posts stating that 2003 model years work, and then some state reprogramming needs to be addressed.

Now I know that Digital Dash Systems on Ebay state reprogramming has to be completed for the gauge to work. Just looking to see if I can save some $$$ tackling this mod since my cluster is starting to take a crap.

Thanks

From what I have researched, the programming costs as much as the overlay, stepper motor and pointer. You might as well have the lights refurbished while the instrument cluster is out. I've heard that you need a Tech II programmer to make the trans gauge function.

I appreciate the feedback. Would love to save some $$$, but taking a gamble on the trans temp actually working and don't have access to a Tech II from programming. Guess I should just have Digital Dash Solutions ship out a total rebuild for about $250 - $300.

That's what I did. You can get different color lights, different overlays and add the trans temp gauge. While it was not cheap, I really like it. I got blue LEDs, Bright Red needles and a Denali overlay. There are a ton of choices.

Subscribing. Is there a thread that details the add on?

I have a cluster from a 2500 Yukon with the trans temp gauge. Instead of having it programmed to my vehicle, I'm not thinking of just removing the trans temp gauge parts & overlay and adding it to my existing cluster....to avoid the reprogram part of the equation.

I looked at this too. but overlays are expensive. As are needles, lights, etc... Plus fact that once you are completely done, something else might fail. I have a dead gauge and a few dead lights. I would love to add the temp gauge but leaning toward a upgraded cluster with warranty.

If you are ok with running an external gauge, the Aeroforce Interceptor is a great gauge that will give you Trans Temp and then some!

This is what I did. I ordered a stock SS Silverado Cluster from them for $240 +200 core charge so I could get the new cluster in my hands and not have to take apart the vehicle before hand. Cost me $16 to ship the old cluster back to get my $200 core back.

Took me 15min to swap with no issues. $256 for no hassles.

So I tackled the DIY task of replacing all stepper motors LED's and adding in the Trans Temp Gauge. There was no re-programming needed and it started reading the trans temp once everything warmed up. Saved $170 from sending out the cluster to have all this completed. Only thing I didn't like is the fact that the US Speedo 360 LED's are really not bright at night. Need to see about replacing them for a more white 360 degree LED.
What other LED's are out there that are bright?
