I bought a 08 tahoe recently and had the transfer case fluid changed when I brought it to a mechanic to get some other things done. When I got the truck home after a short test drive there was an ATF puddle under the breather hose that exits just to the rear of the transfer case and there was fluid everywhere from it hitting the driveshaft. I took it back to the shop and they said the level is fine the mechanic must have over filled it. So after some driving today there is still fluid on the ground but now it seems to be the rear main seal of the transfer case. So my questions are

What is the correct fluid type? and if it was the wrong type is that going to make it leak

Could it still be overfilled and thats why its leaking?

Or was it probably leaking all along and on the initial drain they did not notice that not much fluid came out.

pull out the fill plug when cold and let it drain. If it is over filled it will fix that possible issue. If that seems ok then to a car wash and blast it clean. Keep an eye to where it may be leaking and go from there.
