Hey Guys,
I recently replaced my u-joints on the rear shaft. They were making a clunk noise. Pretty simple to do. After doing so I started to get a leak from which appears to be the rear output shaft seal. I took the driveshaft back off and replaced that seal. As well and drained and refilled oil. I am still having a drip from which comes out from that seal. So i'm assuming it is now an inner seal causing the problem. I have the NP246. What is the average cost to rebuild one? Too much for me to try and do it so I will be having a shop do it. Or should I go with a rebuilt one from a place like transfercases.com. I am skilled enough to take it in and out.. Also I live in chandler az if anyone knows a good trans shop in this locations.

I don't know the history. Truck is 6 months new to me. I just rebuilt the motor but the odometer has 185k. I'm assuming that is 185k on the transfer case. It leaks too much not to worry about it.. And I never abuse it..

Has anyone had this rebuilt? Are there any upgrades to performance or durability other than changing the rear half shell?

and if the seal is not holding up i can only think the shaft is not perfectly stable or is grooved or it leaking thru the case material.

after getting my truck back from the trans shop. They found that the snap ring gromet on the top of the case was missing. So i pieced it together and the leak was caused from me going to the lake and backing it into water to drop the skis off. It filled up with water which cause it to leak out the back shaft. So when I replaced the ujoints and drained a refilled the case I fixed it for one day until in rained and then I went four wheeling. Proceeded to fill the case back up with water. So after a misdiagnoses by the trans shop and me piecing it together too late. I ended up paying 225 for a new rear bearing to be placed that wasn't needed. Live and learn.
