For those of you that are planning on owning a GM 4X4 2000 - 2006 be aware that there is a serious issue with the transfer case. Inside the TC the pump housing is very narrow and will eat away at the inside of the rear housing and letting oil leak out. The biggest problem with this is you probably will never see it happen unless you park your vehicle in a clean garage. It will only leak out while you are driving and the hole is so small that you could over look it if you are not careful in your inspection. All of the stock transfercases are ticking time bombs waiting to leave you stranded and out of a lot of money.
I had it happen to me and i had to purchase a rebuilt one from a local used parts dealer. The new one from the dealer would have cost $1800 or more. If you havent had a problem with your transfer case and your vehicle falls into the category of 00-06 model GM I serioulsy recommend upgrading your pump housing in your transfer case. Merchant Automotive offers an upgrade kit for around 70 dollars that has a larger footing for the housing and won't eat away at the rear housing. Other wise you will be driving around and your transfer case will seize up and cost you a lot of money to fix.
