So this has happened to me a few times now. Slowing down exiting the highway and then making a right turn at the end of the off ramp (without totally stopping--I have a yield); oncoming traffic just starting to go, so if I go now I can get out in front without waiting for the next 20 minutes... Step on the gas, hello? I want to go. Hello? Tahoe, are you there? I don't have time for you to try to stay in gear and then figure out you need to downshift a few seconds later. Hello!!? I need to go NOW! Mr Tahoe, let's go!

Needless to say, the 6l80 and 5.3 seems reticent to downshift, especially on-throttle, then off, then on again. Then it decides to downshift two after really coaxing it and taking years off my life.

Anyone else have this problem? I love this vehicle, but this is a somewhat annoying problem for me. Transmission slow to downshift to power out of a corner? I realize it's not a sports car, but I could at least use a little grunt to merge.

Most importantly, would a tune make downshifts faster and more responsive?

Has anyone changed the + - on the column shift to work all the time, not just while in manual mode?

Thanks for any insight!

Just by using the stock tunes available from Diablo helped resolve most of this issue for me in my Tahoe. I'm sure a custom tune from Lew would solve it completely.

Until you tune it...hit the trailer button in the end of the shift lever....big difference. It will be in the right gear as you slow down because that tow/haul mode utilizes your engine braking as you slow down.

Try it...you'll like it !!

Thanks.

I usually turn grade braking off by holding the button for 5 sec. So I have accidently turned tow/haul on by mistake. I'll have to try driving like that for awhile.

This lag is part of the factory programing. It is to reduce clunks to drivetrain.

Unfortunately, it bogs soo much it is going to increase clunks to my bodywork!

Same here, get a tune ... never tuned before but am now a strong believer

Went with a tune from Andy at IPF, totally cleaned up the shift points and made the vehicle much more responsive and shifts "correctly" vs hunting and clunking before
