Going to change my AT filter and fluid. I have read and reviewed articles, posts, DIY sites and videos. I would like some input from the forum members. I would like to drain and replace as much fluid as possible. Is there a simple way to drain it from the AT cooler?

do a search in google. for tranny flushes and a 4l60e. there is a nice write up on another forum that i justed. basically did the panservice, you have to remove the drive shaft and shift bracket from the tranny. there are 2 torq screws up on top that you cant see. change the filter and seal. seal is a pita, I hammered and folded mine in so I could pull it out. just don't beat up the aluminum of the pan. re install everything. torque pan down. as i remember put 3 quarts in. un hook the passenger side tranny cooler line to the radieator. conect hose to it. and put into a 5 gall bucket.
Have a second person start the truck. get ready it pumps out the house. as soon as you see bubles or cavitaions in the flow, shut off the truck. fill with another 3 qrts. and repeat. If it remember it takes 12 quarts but it could be 15. Mine went pretty easy. hardest part was getting the old seal out .........good luck

I changed the filter& fluid a few months ago and was surprised at how well the transmission seems to shift. the transmission temp has even dropped an average of 15 degrees

Currently using Royal Purple ATF with an AC Delco filter
