Transmission Filter Change, then no 1st gear

Just finished changing the transmission filter in my 06 Tahoe, added 4.5 quarts of dexron 6.

Fired it up, reverse is good, when I put it into drive the tranny slips and barely will move the truck. Placing it manually in 3.2.1 and it seems ok. Not sure if it will shift automatically as I didn't want to keep driving it.

SES light illuminated after about 3 minutes. I don't have a code reader, is there a way to manually pull the codes?



Sorry, owned it since it was new, has 115000 on the clock, 5.3L tow package, deep pan on the tranny. Old fluid was clean and not burnt.

Ok, the code is P0758, I read this http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5801 thread.

Here's what's happening:

Reverse works fine. When I put it in drive, it goes into 3rd, and stays in 3rd. It won't shift up or down .

When I put it in 3rd, it stays in 3rd; if I shift from 3rd to DRIVE, nothing happens, shifting from 3rd to second it goes into 2nd as it should.

When I put it in second, it stays in second, if I shift to first nothing happens, if I shift to 3rd, it shifts like it should.

If I put it in first, it goes into 2nd, and stays in second.



Is it likely that I unplugged the main plug, or did changing the filter fluid cause the solenoid to go bad?

I'll unplug/replug the main plug and see if that fixes the problem.

Hmm,
Is the there a seal on an 06 like on my 04 nbs that goes up in the aluminum that the filter pushes into. Mine was a ***** to bend and pull out. Could you have really bumped the wireing harnes that runs around under the filter? Theres a couple plastic clip style plugs in there, for the shift solinoids and such.

Did you flush the system too? Anything else besides the filter change? Did you over fill the transmission?

Dropped the pan today and found one of the cables going to a solenoid partially disconnected. Runs just like normal again.

No, no flush, just the filter and 4.5 quarts of new fluid.

Thats good to hear. With being a pro now at pulling the pan i would definatly rec. Changing all the fluids, search around flushing 4L60e to find some pictures but the down and dirty way is, unscrew the upper cooler line on the passenger side of your radiator. Attach a hose to it, thats 3' long or so. I just zipped tied an oversize clear tube to it. Put end of hose in 5 gal pale. Start truck. As soon as your a girgle, vibration, different sound in pump SHUT it off. Youll have about 4 qurts in the bucket. Put another 4 qurts doen the filler and repeat. Do it 4 times. It will blow your mind how dirty the oil is. Remeber when you do it the last time to put a couple corts in before you rehook up the line and let it warm up to.temp. then top off. All your out is the 4 quarts of fluid you already dumped in.
If you have an advanced auto around you i have been able to use there online coupons to buy trans fluid and then pick it up at the location. Saved alot of $$$$
