Transmission fluid flush with filter change

Several decades ago I used to run a Jiffy Lube. I NEVER had a transmission fail when doing a fluid exchange on any car that drove in without a problem. Being old school myself, I would check the cars and query the customers when they returned. The only one that ever failed was failed already, a guy insisted we do the fluid exchange on his RV and it didn't help, his trans was toast.

Now the dealerships don't even drop the pan anymore unless someone insists. GM has a full procedure for doing a back flush and fluid exchange and it works. I went ahead and let them do it to mine at 117K, been fine ever since.

This is almost exactly why the service director at my Chevy dealer told me. I've known him a while and he's never steered me wrong---to the contrary, he's actually talked me out of some unnecessary work that I had asked him about.
