Get a vaccuum tool and suck the pan dry. Or install a pan with a drain plug. Don't do this nonsense with running the pump dry through the cooler. Risky, hack shit, IMO.

Never used anything to hold the gasket up. Just a light coat of trans fluid on either side to slip it into place.

If you have the 4l60e, initial fill after dropping pan and changing filter is 3.5 qts

I've heard the old wives tale about not flushing old fluid out of a old tranny for 50 yrs now. I don't buy it and never have.

Last Oct., while I was doing the rear main engine seal job, I changed ALL the nasty old fluid out of my 131k mile tranny. I replaced the torque converter and dropped the pan and installed a new filter. 16k miles later its going strong w/all new fluid. Lucky I guess?
Not an old wives tale... Just... Misunderstood.

A fluid flush won't bring a worn out tranny on its last leg back to life. The only thing letting those bare clutches work is the abrasiveness of the fluid. If you pull your dipstick and see a bunch of fine sand type stuff floating in it, you're at that point. Start budgeting a new transmission because now you're playing the waiting game to see which rotating assembly fails first. Remove the grit? Well now the new fluid actually lubricates as it's supposed to. Including those nice bare metal clutch plates.

Basically.... It won't ruin a transmission. Just let you know it was already ******

Why did you change the Converter ?

I bought the vehicle used 10/18 with 130K+ miles, 07 Yukon Denali w/6L80, it's not new anymore.

While I had it out, Why not? and, Preventative maintenance. Proactive not reactive. I'm a retired pilot so I come from the school of fix it BEFORE it breaks. Also I called a tranny expert who told me the TC is the weak link.
I also installed a new frt input shaft seal GM#24219390, and a new frt pump seal GM#24237531 while I was in that deep.

Good morning. Good stuff on the Yukon.

I just picked a 2006 2wd Tahoe w 115k one owner. Looks very clean but seems worn and tired.

Thinking of doing the trans fluid change also. No power off the line, even w the TC off(service stability note is on).

What is the Bette servo? Also read to replace shift modules ... any feedback on rose ? Thanks!

If your new trans was replaced at "average" mileage, it's a good bet you've got less than 100k on it. I wouldn't worry a bit if it were me. I did mine at 140ish. Added the vette servo and tuned since then. 15k later shifts like it's brand new.

I have a 2003 Tahoe. Purchased 4 years ago with 145K. Changed transmission fluid then. I'm always interested in improvements. Curious about what year vette servo you installed? Also, how difficult was the conversion? Thanks

No need to put anything on the trans gasket , there are tabs on the pan that line it up and keep it in place . Get a new gasket it's peace of mine and easy to replace while everything is out .
