From gear 1 i have to step on it to like 4000rpm let go of the gas and it will go into 3rd gear. Had the code p1870. Anyone had this problem? What do I do to fix it? Thanks.

The code is telling it see internal slippage. Your 2-4 friction band or servo is malfunctioning. The servo seals can be replaced without removing transmission. If the friction band itself is worn out then you need to consider overhaul. It is usually they first one to go. There is no point tearing it down to just do one band when other friction material will follow. If you do go the overhaul route there are a number of improvements and upgraded components available for the choosing. If necessary manually select 1 or 3 to limp it around. I would definitely try doing the servo first.
