Hey everyone,

Well good and bad news: My tahoe just rolled over on 180,000 miles... and then the transmission went out.

So, now here's where I need your help.

1) what model years are interchangeable with a 2002 4x4 tahoe?

2) is it worth upgrading to a 4l80e as opposed to just getting my 4l60e rebuilt?

3) could I put the transmission from a 6.0 into my 5.3 tahoe?

Thanks.

subscribing as im curious about this as well.

1. i believe the trans out of any lsx powered truck will work

2. this is what im most interested in knowing. i would assume the 80 to be much stronger, but usually the bigger stronger trans take more power to work. meaning it will prob feel like youre making less horsepower afterwards, and MAY reduce your mpg's.

3. i assume the 6.0 trucks to have the 4l80e, but the 6.0 in escalade and denali uses a 4l65e. they are suppose to be better, but after breaking one in like 2 weeks of driving, i just dont have alot of faith in them

Me too, me too!

I' dont have alot of faith in them either. I bought an 05 and 06 6.0 denali for towing and launching our small jetboats with and after towing with them for a couple years now they both seem kind of wimpy. The 06 has slipped pretty substantially on me a couple times now even though I've laid off on towing with it altogether. I'm thinking on trading towards some duramaxes, but love the way the denalis handle the snow and ice, and how easy it is to spin a trailer around with their short turning radius that I'd love to figure out a way to justify keeping them. I've been looking at the "monster" transmissions out of florida, but to ship to alaska makes them a bit over 3K apiece, plus I've still got to swap them over and am getting spooked about having to midify frame members, modifying ecm settings and so on.

Any recommendations for a plug and play option with greater durability for towing would be greatly appreciated.
