transmission question

i have a 97 tahoe 1500 with the v8 vortec 5.7, 4WD, auto. i was wondering how difficult it would be to convert it to manual. has anyone ever done this, and can give me suggestions? if you need any other info before you give advice, i can tell you most everything about the truck.
