Can anyone chime in on what the going rate is for a fluid and filter change for a 03' Yukon XL 4x4?

I recently had my transmission serviced and I was surprised when they handed me the bill $40. I was expecting more than that.

So now a week has passed and I am starting to wonder if their was a miscommunication b/c this seems too low of a price for this service. Could they have possibly just drained and filled without replacing the filter?

I feel akward calling the shop and complaining about a low bill lol. Than again the owner of the shop is a friend of a friend who always seems to take care of me.

Thanks guys

PS - He did mention before the service that he gets transmission filters for $10 (at cost) and its probably cheaper for me just to have him do it.

call and ask for specifics.
just say hey bud, Im curious as to what you guys did, considering the bill was so low...

If it indeed was just a filter and 4 quarts AND you really want a full flush. Save yourself some cash and do it yourself.
There is a excellent write up here how to do a flush, without even getting dirty.

My 14quart flush took all of 15 mins with the help of a bud, who simply operated the key, while I watched the drain and refilled.
While standing at the front of the yukon.

I had a beer in one hand during the entire procedure.. It really is that simple..
If you cant find the tutorial, simply ask, me or someone will post it for ya.

I just flushed mine and replaced the filter last week.

13 quarts of dexron vi was $120. New filter was $25. The fitting for the radiator and the clear hose required was about $10 total.

The 4l60e holds 11.2 quarts. i bought a few extra just in case i drained too much.

I wouldnt touch it. Thats normally when they take a crash few miles later on. More so if they are flushed. Flushing seem to cause more harm than good. New filter and clean fluid is the best unless you put a new stall in there.

so basically from what im readin here 40 bucks for filter/fluid is ummmm very cheap.... im bringing my other ride in so i'll run it by him. thanks guys. BTW hoe its an 03 but only has 77k miles on it so i dnt think its too high of miles to not warrant a full flush. However, since my pan has a drain id be more inclined to drain and fill a few times after the filter change and than stay on top of the fluid/filter changes at earlier intervals. Thanks guys for the info

yea filters are cheap, he prob payed cost about $4.00 for your filter and gasket, he also has a big 50 gallon barrel of good ole cheap dextron generic trans fluid. Thus the cost to you.... He then does the labor which is not much of. Then he can further make profits.
