The one thing I have is when I am coming to a stop. It feels like the motor gives a blip of gas and then the trans drops to neutral.

But this is when I am braking to a stop sign. Usually like a slow light brake in a parking lot for example...Is this what people are talking about?

@JennaBear: does your 8 speed autocal tune address this?

Your complaint is a very common one and we are typically able to address it. If there guys cannot fully correct it, it is usually mitigated to the point where it is no longer a nuisance.

Is it that feeling like you're coasting down from 40mph and you'll get a nasty downshift, feels like someone hit you in the rear

If so, I agree with others a very unfortunate characteristic with this tranny

I went with a tune, cleaned it up completely

What do you mean by "tune"? Thank you.

Last Christmas, my 3 uncles pooled thier funds together and bought outright, a 2016 Yukon XL Denali for my grandmother. It too has this same transmission issue and only has 6,000 miles on it. She refuses to drive it saying it is unsafe at slow speeds. She too lives in California, in the San Gabriel Valley, near Los Angeles. As you can guess, with traffic, most of her driving is done below 40mph She prefers to drive her older 2003 Cadillac truck claiming it has more "get up and go" power. The EXT looks great but has many electrical problems and a billion miles on it, thus the reason for the Denali purchase.

My Uncle Ron took the Denali back to the dealership explaining the transmission situation to the service department. Service department said the transmission seems to be operating normally but would "look into it". I don't know if the situation was addressed. The Denali is back from the dealership and has been parked in grandma's garage for the past two months. She still refuses to drive it.

I've driven it a few times last summer when it had approximately 5,000 miles on it and the transmission felt like it was slipping back then. Maybe it's normal, I don't know.

This is paraphrased from a GM Bulletin, it's probably outdated but the Dealer has this info. They probably didn't go any farther because the diagnostic code in the bulletin didn't present and it requires teardown. My advice is to go drive the piss out of it, make the check engine light come on, go park it on their lot and make it clear it's staying there until you have an answer.

#PI1344B: DIAGNOSTIC TIPS FOR REDUCED ACCELERATION AT LOW SPEED AND/OR TRANSMISSION SLIPPING FROM A LAUNCH, DTC P0751 SET (NOV 6, 2015).

During inspection of the Clutch Select Solenoid Valve 2 (359), the valve may or may not be stuck in the bore due to the valve body bolts being loosened.

@Ashley , the dealerships line about backing up to get it back in to 2WD is not something ive ever heard of. That's odd. Your line about your freeway lanes being flooded? As in flooded with water? Where? I don't experience that in the part of California I live in haha. That would be in the only instance I can think of that would require 4x4 on a highway. But at which case you wouldn't be going highway speeds.

The new 8 speeds are having all kinds of problems. Keep checking back with the dealer to see if they have a new programing. I would like to see the paper work they gave you. I have not heard of this 4X4 issue.
Some 70's Toyota 4X4 did have to back up several feet to engage/disengage the transfer case. My neighbor had an 80's Toyota 4 Runner and he would back up and move forward a few feet in the street to engage/disengage the gears. I had an 87 Ford Bronco II and a 95 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer. Neither had issue so I would think newer 4X4 vehicles would not be required to do this. Plus, this information is not in our Manuals. I would check out another Dealer. Look up their Service Department ratings to make sure they are reputable. Being a Dealer doesn't mean you get the best Techs. Good luck!
