Transmission Temp 180

Hey guys,

I really baby my Tahoe, transmission temps around denver are 144. I noticed it was climbing up to 180 on the way down the mountain from Vail last night.

Is that excessive ?

No. Generally >240 is the danger zone. Mountain climbing, especially if you're punching it, will cause it to rise quite a bit. I used to have a Suburban 1500 when I lived in El Paso, and touched 200 degrees a few times while accelerating up Trans-Mountain.

If the transmission temp rises while idling, or rises as you put strain on it and does not drop once you start driving on flat ground, it could be indicative of a transmission cooler/cooler line issue.

The thermostat on the trans doesn't even open to the cooler until 180*.

My ‘16 Suburban usually runs near 190 on long trips. Within the normal operating temp referenced in the manual.
