Ok so I just found out that when I refinanced my truck 2 years ago we actually bought an extended warranty at that time for 5 years 100,000 miles! So I’m thankfully covered!!! Yay

But now my question is what would you all recommend? Should I have the dealer replace it for the genuine parts or have a transmission specialist do it? I have no knowledge as to which would be better, so any thoughts would be appreciated!

Take it to the dealer, they will offer a 3yr warranty while a tranny shop will offer a 1 year warranty.

I’d most likely go with the dealership if it was my vehicle as well, though the dealership you went to didn’t do you any favors (that would have been enough for me to write them off). That said, I’ve got family all around Pittsburgh. If you’re open to it just send me a PM and I’ll check with my uncle and see if he’s got good leads for transmission shops in the area.

I’ve had some friends get transmissions replaced in their NBS vehicles back in the day and some local warranties best out the dealership. Take it with a grain of salt though since GM offers nationwide service.

I'd go to the dealership. A GM transmission will be remanufactured with all updated components, etc. Check on the warranty though with your service manager. Usually if GM pays for it m, then it's 2 yr/24k. If it's customer pay then it's 3 yr/100k. Ran into this with extended warranty stuff in the past

Awesome news on the warranty. I too would go with the dealer replacing it. On a weird side note, my daughter recently took her ‘18 Cruze to the dealer under warranty to fix a #2 cylinder misfire and somehow it threw a rod while it was there and they replaced the entire engine.

Just went through this myself on 2015 Yukon, 5.3L, 6-speed, 141k Mi. Changed trans fluid last April-May 2022 and by October and less than 5k mi the trans was shot. Metal through trans, burnt fluid, couldn’t hold a gear after causing massive vibration coming from the front end. Was $6k and now have 3yr/100k warranty on the trans. Stinks but a new truck is 10x more.

It'd be cheaper tp fine a good trans shop to rebuild it and not deal with the stealership.

It’s under warranty, doesn’t get any cheaper than free.
