My 2001 yukon xl has 200k and a check engine code for misfire. When you first start it up each day (colder it is the worse it is) it will crank right up fine, but letting it warm up over a period of 5-10 minutes or so it will sputter down till it's just about to die then rev up really loud....then back to a sputter. It will do this for several minutes till warm, but still has a"sputtery" idle. I've ordered plugs, plug wires, fuel filter and can shaft position sensor. Am I on the right track, or is there another obvious culprit one of you here can point me in the direction of ? I really, really appreciate you all taking the time. This is my wife's truck and my kids spend a lot of time ridding in it so it's important that I keep it running and dependable.

Sounds like your on the right track , worst case senario that I could see being a problem is the ECM is gone causing the erratic Idle changes , I doubt this as If you have a misfire its most likely the ECM compensating for the Dead cylinder(s) when was the last time it had a tune up?
