could the odor coming from the exhaust help with the diagnosis or is it just something normal when you have a misfire

if you smell raw gas then that is because of the misfiring. I can't make this more clear you need to find a shop that that can read misfire history so they or you have a starting point at which cylinders are screwed up. once you have a starting point you will be in a much better position to diagnose a the problem.

just call and ask any shop that says the do check engine lights and just ask " can you see the cylinder misfire history and possibly do a injector balance test" any shop with a snap-on or OTC scanner can do those tasks. those scanners are everywhere.

havent had much time or money to mess with the hoe lately so tonight i decided to see what i could do with supplies I had on hand. Soo I took my spark tester and tested everything I could and found out that #8 on the dizzy is not firing. After this small victory I took the EGR off and cleaned it with carb cleaner. Afetr doing these two things I now no longer have a P0300 code. I now have a P0308 which will be gone once I get my new dizzy rotor and wires.

Thanks to everyone for all the help.
