If you want to get it fixed you should probably get the parts and tools that are suggested by these guys. They know what they are talking about and many have done it before. And don't always buy the cheapest parts you can find, spend the extra money to buy good parts and tools.

A scanner that can playback data is still a good idea. But becuase you mention it happens being parked to I would suspect either uncommanded egr or emmision actuator movement or a sensor faulting out. Once again a good scanner can read back realtime sensor data aand perhaps check your code history for a problem that comes and goes. The only other thing that comes to mine is a random loose or disconnected ground on or near the block somewhere for the vehicle electronics.

Sunlitcomet, i really can't thank you enough for your help... but can you explain what you mean by uncommanded EGR.. i realize the EGR recycles spent exhaust back into the manifold... also what do you mean Emmision actuator movement.... i figure if i had a bad sensor then the SEL light would come on... but i could be wrong... again many thanks for your input... i will look into getting a scanner that can read realtime data....

Clean your throttle body before you do anything else. $2.98/can for carb cleaner

yeah when i upgraded the Spider injectors i cleaned the throttle body.... i'v been reading up on what could cause it and as of 5 min ago i unplugged the EGR and i'll see if that helps... if it does i'll first clean it or replace it...

ok so after driving around with the EGR unplugged it seems that this might be the problem.... i have not had any problems and i have taken off the EGR and cleaned it with throttle body cleaner... i am going to wait till tomorrow to plug it back in just to make sure the truck doesn't die.... so we'll seee,

some time servo control motors like the elctric egr we have can malfuntion and moved without command from the computer. And sometimes when a sensor malfuctions is may give the computer the wrong impression and actuate something like a purge valve for the emmision canister or egr valve that does not coencide with the rest of the system disturbing it balance and hence error code or mechanical malfunctions.
