Hey guys, I’m about to have a shop install the spin tech 5000 muffler I ordered, but I noticed that there are 2 mufflers on the exhaust. One is right behind the cat, like it should be, and there is another one just before the rear bumper where the exhaust pipe turns down. My question is, will there be an issue if the second muffler is deleted with the new install? Just curious what purpose is served by the second muffler. (These newer models have so many sensors, I don’t want to screw something up before I get started!)

That second one near the exit is a resonator. It's not much of a muffler. It's a chamber tuned to cancel out a specific range of sound frequencies that are created when AFM is active. Most that have deleted it don't notice any appreciable difference, if any at all. Safest course is to have your louder muffler installed and reassess. Pay special attention when cruising and AFM is active. If you hear a sound you don't like, don't delete the resonator as that unwanted sound will be louder. Swapping the muffler and/or deleting the resonator will not affect any sensors.

Hey, I also have a Spintech 5000 and removed the resonator after trying it with the Walker replacement over-axle. I now definitely notice drone, mostly at 2700-3000 ish RPM. However, I could barely hear the new muffler with the resonator on. It sounded more like a proper V8 and definitely not stock but inside the car was almost nothing. The biggest issue is the DOD; it made a slight flutter with the resonator but sounds ridiculous with it gone. So now I leave it in tow mode and in 5th gear so that it stays in 8cyl. Im thinking of putting the resonator back on and switching to a louder muffler but am not sure yet, maybe even use the Spintech bullet/resonators?.. let me know how yours turns(ed) out

That is super weird that you have a drone like that. Mine turned out great! I do need to get pics up here, (I will do it when I get home from working out of town) I did a resonator delete and muffler swap with the spintech 5000. Sounds amazing outside, and when driving it, even at the magic 60mph, it’s ALMOST inaudible in the cab. No drone. Do you have off-road or all-terrain tires? You may be making the harmony between tire hum and the small drone you may be getting. That used to happen to my old Silverado at the right speeds and road materials. (Concrete vs. asphalt)

I dont have all-around drone like the Flowmaster 40s do, but just a lil blip around 1200rpm and a good buzz at 3000ish. Luckily that range is only when it holds the top end of that gear so its brief. The tires are stock Goodyear RSAs, which are terrible.

Are you using the factory over-axle pipe?

I had the pipe replaced with a 3” pipe. It goes over the axle and turns down flush with the rear bumper so it’s hidden.
