Underhood blanket thingy

i know im using pretty technical terms but stay with me

the insulation type blanket under the hood , does this serve a special propose?

mine looks ratty and i have always taken them off my other vehicals

if i take it off is my truck going to self destruct? ( more then it already is? )

If im not mistaken they absorb heat and keep engine noise down?

I dunno, kinda just guessed to be honest.

yes they serve a purpose. They absorb heat. Bad idea to take it off espically if you live in cold areas. Engine will heat the metal and the cold will cool it rapidly causing Paint to peel and maybe even warp it.

Yes, that's a heat and noise shield. If you take it off your engine temperature will rise significantly and you'll hear your engine 24/7.

I also believe another pourpose for these is in case of an engine compartment fire. If a fire starts under the hood the little plastic clips melt dropping it onto the burning compartment hopefully putting it out. My suggestion if your asking would be to leave it in place.
