upgrade or not ???

Hi. Guys I’v been using this forum for years ever since I bought my 04 Tahoe and info here has been really helpful and I thank all the members for that.

However my Tahoe is sick right now and it needs new head gaskets. So I thought why don’t I get a comp cam and new performance rockers while I’m at it.

But here comes the question my Tahoe did over 230k miles so is it Ok to do the upgrade or not ???

is this something you can do on your own, or is the price of labor going to be involved. if you can fix it yourself, you could try all the above without spending too much money. but if you need to pay a shop to do it, you can prob find a lower mileage motor for less than what a shop would charge for head gasket job. but then you would need to pay the labor for that which may come out alittle more expensive in long run. but you could end up with a pretty fresh motor.

take a look at craigslist for your town and see what kind of 5.3s and 6.0s pop up. around here i see 5.3s for $500ish and 6.0s for $1000ish
