Upgraded maps in 2008 Yukon

Hey all,
This is probably a stupid question but is it possible to hack or change/upgrade the maps in a 2008 Yukon with navigation? I have changed the map to a 2016 but it still sucks! Any newer maps than that or am I just stuck? It probably still has the stock software in it as well. Would upgrading the software help?

Your 2008 uses a physical navigation disk that is in a drive hidden behind your navigation screen. You will need to purchase an newer version of the GM navigation disk but I think 2016 is the newest disk that is available.

I believe in 2012, they switched to a hard drive where it saves the disk information, but it still requires a disk.

The updated nav discs are dvd and copies can be bought on ebay for like $9-15.

Starting in 2012 the systems are hard drive based and the maps can be updated, but you can't get cheap copies because they get coded to your VIN.

Like said above, the newest maps are 2016.

Wish I knew how Jeff! Here! (formally NavTeq) wrote back to me a few months ago and said that GM would have to authorize them to release a new update of the maps. GM if memory serves, never wrote back to me about it. We have the 2016 disc and want a 2020. I don't want to be forced to change to an aftermarket navigation unit as they seem to me to not be as durable or enduring; the companies come, sell their wares, and then they're gone.

I started researching this and decided to replace the head unit with an aftermarket unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. I settled on a Kenwood DMX706s. Huge improvement with CarPlay. Love it.

Me either! They should upgrade the disks to a newer version than 2016! It would really help those of us that have the older systems. I don't want to go to an aftermarket system either. I worry about the factory system constantly running as well. I'm afraid it will eventually kill my battery if it's parked too long.

When these trucks are shut off, they don't really stay asleep electronics wise. Modules are always waking up, running tests and going back to sleep. Depending on the health of a battery, it takes about a month to run it down.
