Vibration over 80mph

Hey everyone, I just picked up a 15' Escalade ESV with 88k miles. I have noticed a few issues so far, but otherwise it's in great condition.

One thing I cannot figure out is the shanking / vibration over about 77mph. Originally the car shook over 40mph, so I had the wheels balanced. Over 6oz light in two of the wheels; thought the issue was fixed, but now its just at higher speeds. I guess my question is, if tires are driven too long while unbalanced and create uneven tread, then even after balancing, can they still shake at high speeds? at about 20mph you can hear the uneven tread... anybody have their $0.02? They're the 20"

There is balancing and there is Road Force Balancing, and everyone is not good at it. Find a shop with a Road Force Balancing machine, this machine allows the tech to rotate the tire on the wheel to use the least possible weights, can also tell you if you if you have a bent wheel, OR a bad tire. Even if your tires were worn with porper balancing you should not get shaking, you may have some tracking issues for a few miles

Welcome to the forum from Oregon. I bet the problem is tires and the wear patterns. If you can hear the uneven wear at 20 mph, that is a dead giveaway. Plus, the entire steering and suspension should be checked, driveline checked and if is in alignment that could cause tire wear patterns.

& if OEM tires, high likelihood that they have issues.
could be worth checking out better brand tires

Thank you all for your comments and assistance. Given the tires on the vehicle are not preferred for WY climate, and the low speed uneven tread wear noise, I'm likely going to replace. My first balance was at a Costco for a whopping $20 out the door. Likely not a Road Force Balance.

Yea, likely done by 1st day at work Todd that was shown how to use the balance machine 1.5 hours ago.

A roadforce balance isn't a fix all though - it is a diagnostic. If the tire is bad the tire is bad and no amount of indexing or balancing will fix that. If you're already thinking about getting new tires anyway, don't waste your money on this. Get Michelin Defender LTX and have them installed at the dealer and let them know you want the roadforce checked on the new tires because you have a vibration concern. There are also updated steering gear bushings for the 15s and 16s that make a huge difference BUT they won't do squat if there is still a tire vibration.

My 12 had the high speed vibration/shake. I tried everything from new tires, new wheels, road force balancing, etc. What finally fixed it was some ****** totaling his car into my front end. Got a new frame... Still have no idea what it was but the truck drives better after the accident than it did before. Unless info for you...lmao
