Supposedly the baseline run was dead stock, then the spacer was added AND the PCM was tuned at the same time.
So how much the spacer added vs just the tune hasn't been verified

I also followed that link and thought, 'Cool, bolt on 20hp for only $300!', but then I looked at the instructions.

They say that you can't reuse the two gaskets. those two gaskets are proprietary to the spacer. So my problem with this is,
after you install this, and you want to get back in there for any reason, where do you get the replacement gaskets?

Also, I found it hard to actually buy one online. I'm guessing that most people replace the intake rather than a spacer? IDK.

Tiger Eye's has one according to his sig, How about it Tigereyes, can you tell us about it?

I think that I just read the same thing on FSC, from 2005? Guy did the spacer and a pcm tune at the same time. Loves the mods, but can't tell which did which for him...

I think that the vendor's webpage was a 96 pickup, with just the spacer added though. Those charts are pretty impressive.

I've been pleased with the VMax... don't have a custom tune either. I don't have before/after dyno numbers, but my butt-dyno says that it pulls harder and longer than the factory setup. Towing, cruising, and acceleration are easier and it doesn't fall flat in the upper rpms like it used to. Researched the part online and purchased local (4WheelParts - came out better than doing a price match).

To answer the gasket question... the gaskets don't seem proprietary to me at all. They appear to be the same as the regular intake gasket. Not saying they are, but they look like they are.

FWIW, I replaced my intake gaskets and spider assy at the same time. Nothing was wrong with my factory spider other than the mileage was getting up there and figured "might as well" while I was in there...it was the second replacement for the intake gaskets. Ordered the spider assy from GMPartsDirect.

I installed the spacer on my HT383e at the time of the install so I don't know what the difference would be. In my mind it gives more volume of air and the motor will breath better since the whole manifold is filled with injectors and tubes. I had a MAJOR problem installing the fuel lines. I had to get a tubing bender to get them passed the Distributor and wires.

Normally the fuel lines pass under the wires. When you add the spacer. it puts the fuel lines right in front of the wires. It was a nightmare trying to get the lines from under the truck to line up. Not sure if anyone else had this issue.

You were/are not alone with the fuel line issue... was a pain, but manageable. Eventually, I plan to replace the hard lines with flexline/AN fittings (that might occur when I do the crate swap though). Best believe a custom tune will be in the mix with that endeavor.

Glad to hear I'm not alone with this issue! I contacted Taylor Products who bought out VMAX and they said they have never heard of the problem and noone has ever contacted them about it. They have sold hundreds of them and have had no issues.

Here is his email: Justin Askren <[email protected]>

I suggest we all let him know about it. I consider them to be deceptive about this product.

I did a little grinding on the spacer itself (distributor wouldn't index just right without it) and re-bent the fuel lines... problem solved. I bought mine before Taylor took over the SPE group (just found out about that today, BTW). Safe to say that the statute of limitations has run out on my install.

Cool! Thanks for the feedback!
So just for clarification, if I ever need to open that up again, I would need two(top and bottom of spacer) OEM intake gaskets?

Ok, so to do this mod, I should be looking at buying the spacer, buying the mpfi spider replacements, and be prepared to buy flexable fuel lines. Anything else you guys can think of?

I still think that this is a good idea. It's a cheap addon. Now I'm going shopping for parts.. HAHA I still have to install the other parts that I've purchased, but that's another story!

BTW, I love this place. Ask a question, get an answer!
