My 2007 tahoe had factory nav with bose. When I bought it the previous owner istalled a base pioneer nav unit. I got a smoken deal on a brand new avic z120bt so I did the swap. I have used avic411 and still donot have a clear answer. I have read run a wire to the relay box at the drivers feet but some people say run a wire to the actual wheel sensor to get a raw signal. It seems the factory nav would have been hooked to the vss so if that is the case what color wire on the factory radio harness is the vss wire without me having to run a wire across my truck for no reason?

If your Tahoe came from the factory and was originally built with the navigation unit in the vehicle then yes, theoretically you should have a VSS wire already ran to the radio.

I am not sure exactly what your setup looks like, or how the previous owner hooked up the system, but I do know that the VSS wire at the back of the factory radio is probably green and is plugged into (I think) a brown connector. That is assuming of course the original owner kept the factory connections when installing a different radio.

If it did not come originally from the factory with a navigation unit built in, then yes you must tap into the VSS wire. There are kits you can buy HERE

These are the directions someone who is setting up a navigation unit in their Tahoe for the first time would follow. This is assuming again that the original connections are still a factor in your radio setup. I have provided directions below simply for reference. Please note that these are not my own personal directions, but rather info I have collected elsewhere.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You will take the wire from the vss kit. It will be the one with the brown connector and green wire. Under the dash on the drivers side near the parking brake, you will see a black plastic cover. Remove this cover and you will see a wire terminal box. At the top of the terminal box you will see a clip on each side. Squeeze them together and pull the box towards you. Lift up and gently turn the wire terminal box around. Remove the 2 connectors as shown in the picture to easily flip the box around. On the right side is where the vss wire is located. Carefully cut the wire-tie to see the wires more easily. Locate a green with a white striped wire. The green wire from the VSS Kit brown connector has to be spliced into that green and white striped wire. Run this wire back to the radio so that the brown plug is there.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know that's a lot of information, but I think that may be what you are looking for. I hope that helps. It really all depends on how the wiring was done prior to you purchasing the vehicle. Good luck!!

That kit is for installing a factory nav unit in a truck that didn't have factory nav. It was about 2 months ago when I installed it but I am pretty sure that brown plug is still there just not being used. Thanks for the pic b/c I didn't know what that plug was for. The pioneer is installed correctly with a pac bose adapter, audible sound adapter , steering wheel control, ect. I was looking for the wire on the factory radio harness witch has a few unused wires and none were the right color. Never thought about that brown plug b/c it was not used with the previous install. I will try that in the next few days. I am going on a road trip in a few weeks and would like to have full benefit of the unit.

Ok so my next few days comment turned into about a month, lol. I finally did hooked the vss wire from the avic z120bt to the green wire on the brown plug. So far I have only driven it a few miles so it is still calculating but I have a speed pulse now which I didnot have before. So far so good! Thanks for the help chevyfreak. You would be suprised after looking on many forums and even talking to pioneer that everyone kept saying run a wire to the wheel sensor. I knew there had to be another way.

Thanks for the update! I was beginning to wonder if you had ever gotten the problem taken care of. I suppose all good things take time! Hopefully after a full test things will work as they are supposed to!

Have you taken your road trip yet? If not, with luck, things will work for you as planned on the trip :)

Not a problem! That is what this forum is all about. I was just glad my advice actually helped for once. It is hard sometimes when I can't actually, physically see what the problem is. I am just happy to share the information I have collected over time from other people, and my own personal experience!

My '07 has factory bose, not factory nav, and my Avic-X930BT is arriving today, as well as the PAC OS-4. Will I still need to find and tap into a VSS wire???

I'm pretty sure yes. If you want the navigation to work correctly then you will need to tap into a VSS wire at someplace, and if your Tahoe didn't come with factory nav. then you don't already have the wire there. See my post above for directions and where you can find a VSS kit on eBay. You should be fine in the short term, but eventually I am pretty sure you will need a VSS wire hooked up. Let me know if you need any help!

Again, not factory nav. That kit is useless. That plug will go nowhere in my AVIC.

Well that depends on ones specific setup.

Either way, I am pretty sure that you are still going to need a wire running from a speed sensor (or VSS wire) to allow the navigation to track you properly. Since you do not have a factory navigation system the green wire (brown connector or not) is not already there for you to use. As 2007tahoe did, you will still need to tap into, at some point, a VSS wire and run that (whether it is green or not) to the back of your new radio.

Instead of buying the kit, just run a wire from the green with white stipe ( read text above) to the back of the pioneer and connect it to the wire on the pioneer that is for the vss. I think it was pink on my pioneer.
