i would stick to a conventional. me personally i run 10-40 conventional with a bottle of lucas every 3000 miles. but thats also because my motor would not hold good oil pressure at idle and the thicker oil with lucas helped it alot

It doesn't really matter. 10w40 is just a little thicker when it gets warm. You can run pretty much any oil in your engine. I would go with what GM calls for, but any oil is better than no oil.

yes when i ran 5-30 my oil pressure would read 15 at idle and 35-40 on the highway witch was not in my comfort level. now with 10-40 and lucas it gets 25-30 at idle and 45-50 on the higway. the truck is just my daily D. now my silverado on the other hand gets m1 gold cap 5-30 every 1000 miles :)

Why would dilute Mobil 1 was an additive? Do you know exactly what is in that additive?
Mobil 1 fully synthetic motor oil exceeds the industry’s toughest standards and outperforms all conventional oils. We do not recommend adding engine oil additives to any lubricant. The additives in an oil are carefully balanced and the addition of other additives can de-stabilize the oil and cause additives to drop–out of solution.

The major oil companies are some of the richest, most powerful and aggressive corporations in world. They own multi-million dollar research facilities manned by some of the best chemical engineers money can hire. It is probably safe to say that any one of them has the capabilities and resources at hand in marketing, distribution, advertising, research and product development equal to 20 times that of any of the independent additive companies. It therefore stands to reason that if any of these additive products were actually capable of improving the capabilities of engine lubricants, the major oil companies would have been able to determine that and to find some way to cash in on it.

In addition, all of the major vehicle and engine manufacturers spend millions of dollars each year trying to increase the longevity of their products, and millions more paying off warranty claims when their products fail. Again, it only stands to reason that if they thought any of these additives would increase the life or improve the performance of their engines, they would be actively using and selling them - or at least endorsing their use. Instead, many of them advise against the use of these additives and, in some cases, threaten to void their warranty coverage if such things are found to be used in their products.
