Want To Lower The Tahoe

Let me start by admitting that I know nothing about lowering a 4 wd suspension! I don't know anything about messing with the keys or torsion bars. That being said: Can anyone tell me how to go about lowering my 03, without having to really buy any parts? What I mean is, I'd like to just go maybe 2 inches in the rear and maybe an inch in the front, or something along those lines. Everything is stock. I have the 16 Tahoe rims but I'm trying to get the ppv style 17 inch rims. There's a big gap in the rear between the quarter and the tire. I'd like to bring it down as far as I can go with the stock suspension pieces once I put the 17's on. I've read something about torsion keys but have no idea what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx again guys!

You'll need 2" drop springs for the rear and you can easily adjust the torsion keys up front to get 1". Do a search for adjusting the torsion keys, either here or Google or YouTube. I've never done it but hear it's easy.

So I definitely need to get springs? Can't use the stock pieces to get it lowered? How would lowering shackles do? Better than springs?

I've never seen lowering shackles for our trucks. You can either get new springs or cut yours, which I wouldn't advise unless you don't care how it rides. You might also need shock extenders so your shocks don't bottom out. Tony @TBSSowners.com should be chiming in any time here. He sells all the stuff you need, at the best prices.

Springs front and rear? I was trying to see if I could lower it just by utilizing what's on there already, which is all stock. Springs can't be too pricey tho.

Springs for the rear only, front just adjust torsion keys. You can't lower the rear by utilizing what's already on there unless you cut your stock springs like I said. And then it will ride like shit. You're looking at $150-200 which is damn cheap to lower a vehicle. At the top of this page you can click on the tbssowners.com logo and it will take you to Tony's site. Click on their "store" button at the top and browse their stuff. He sells a complete DJM 2/3 kit for under $300 that has 2" front torsion keys, rear 3" springs, and rear shock relocators. It's a recommended kit by those here on the forum, and Tony has awesome service. He'll answer any questions you have when you're installing. Or like I said, you can just do springs and adjust the stock keys 1".

Really? I just googled "2004 Tahoe lowering by adjusting torsion keys" and came up with 9000 results. Try this Youtube video, and if it's not enough there's many many more right there too. All you have to do is put the rig on jackstands and turn a bolt on each side.
