Hey there,
I would like to put an exhaust, cai and suspension level to my Hoe. I have nearly all of the warranty left (I have under 30k km) and was wondering, if I install a cat back after market exhaust, cold air intake and a leveling kit (just the strut blocks) am I voiding any warranty what so ever?

On my N55 E92 BMW I am able to touch pretty much anything except for emissions such as the cat and downpipe or the ECU/timing. So if my cold air on the bmw burns up the o2 sensors, I have to replace them with my own money cause the leaner F/A ratio probably burnt them up, but if a piston flies thru the block, they will still honor the warranty -- instead of blaming it on something so simple as a CAI (not like a CAI would do that, haha).

This is my first GM, whilst I don't know if dealerships are common to not honor the warranty and blame the problem on just a simple modification.

Thanks, happy thanks giving to the US as well.
Liam.

Hello and welcome. This sticky will help you understand the The Magnuson-Moss Act. It applies to all vehicles, even your BMW. Some dealerships are more lax than others, but it depends on what you've done to it and whats broke. For example, the bigger tires and suspension won't effect a coolant leak warranty, but it might effect something with the transmission.

Before someone chimes in (again) that it isn't worth it to hire a lawyer to fight GM using the Magnusom-Moss act, GM does subscribe to the BBB Autoline program to settle warranty disputes. This is mentioned in your owners manual. It is free to file a claim and it can go to arbitration if GM doesn't back down. It is not likely IMO that an arbitrator would allow GM to skirt federal law.

Thanks for the information, the Magnuson-Moss Act, being a United States federal law, does anyone know if a similar act/set of laws exists in Canada? I'm from the west coast.

It would take a pretty **** dealer to deny warranty for a CAI and a cat-back exhaust. Not sure about the leveling kit. It should be fine as long as you aren't dropping it into the weeds or putting a big lift on it. We once had a customer that put a lift and big tires on his 2500HD then claimed the factory sway bars weren't controlling body roll enough.
