What things do I need to look at, which determine the weight capacity of a vehicle?

I already gather its some of these things:
Leaf Springs
Shocks?
Tires

Can the 1495 lbs my vehicle currently allows me to haul in the vehicle can be moved up?

Is there anything to do with Gear Ratio?

According to Gzes you can tow 10K with a 2 door 95.

:happy175:

Rear gear will allow you to get off the line with the load in tow quicker. It won't allow you to physically handle more weight on the suspension.

You would want to make sure your brakes are up to par as well or get a brake controller.

you can haul more but it must be towed. roughly 6000-6500lbs depending on vehicle config.

So there is nothing I can do, to increase the load of the truck in itself? How difficult is it to change the gear ratio? Is something a mechanic should play with, or is it possible for the tinker'er who is serious about making things work.

Here is what my RPO code pulled up: Is that low end? High end?
GT4 Rear axle, 3.73 ratio
GT4 Rear Axle Ratio, 3.73
GT4 Rear Axle: 3.73 Ratio
GT4 3.73:1 Rear Axle Ratio
GT4 Axle Rear 3.73 Ratio (DUP With 5 x 1)
GT4 Axle ratio, 3.73
GT4 AXLE REAR 3.73 RATIO

I have 3 Extra leaves in the rear pack, can easily carry well over the stock capacity.

As in, have carried 25 sheets of 5/8" plywood, 4 rolls of torchdown roofing, 8 bundles of shingles, and 16 2x6x8's - she squatted a bit, but never bottomed out while driving 15 miles.....

The only thing I would add would be to reinforce the rear hanger brackets that bolt to the frame, my driver's side is cracked, and needs replacing. Stock replacements run about $85, I remember seeing a set of McGaughey's that were made of 3/16" steel, they were about $140 for the pair....

Oh yeah, I can also tow a bit of weight with it too..... the extra leaves really help to stabilize the rear, practically zero sway.

bags would be better for you especially if you setup them up with the extra equipment to auto height adjust themselves.
